Download The Eraser from iTunes and get an exclusive digital booklet. Review from SXSW by Allstar: "Pyramid Song" creeped up next, as a piano-laden intro quickly gave way to a minor howl from Yorke. A lush and stormy backing track persevered throughout, giving off the impression that the band is symbolically lost at sea. When the drums kicked in, the song almost became a big band-era jam (more on that later). As the crowd at Plush became lost in the track (many folks were seen with their eyes shut, bolting those lost in the track (many folks were seen with their eyes shut, as if in some sort of trance), a large, overpowering orchestral crescendo rose and fell, bolting those lost in the music back to reality that this is Austin, although not included on that album, leading some to criticize the band for leaving off their most melodic new material. Originally slated for a series of EPs or singles, "Pyramid Song" and the other unreleased songs (such as "You and Whose Army?" and "Knives Out") eventually came together as the follow-up Amnesiac, along with other material that had been recorded during the marathon Kid A sessions. "Pyramid Song" was heavily influenced by the Charles Mingus song "Freedom," and originally he had even wanted to include similar hand-claps. The song was produced by Nigel Godrich together with Radiohead.

At various times "Pyramid Song" has also been known as "Egyptian Song" and "Nothing to Fear," from a lyric in its chorus. It received its live debut in 1999 at the Tibetan Freedom Concert in Amsterdam, at which it was performed solo by Yorke on piano. Subsequently the full-band version became a part of Radiohead's anticipated concert tours in 2000, both before and after the release of Kid A. "Pyramid Song" was in fact recorded during this time, although not included on Kid A; for example, its string parts were performed by the Orchestra of St. John's during the same day as those used in Kid A 's "How to Disappear Completely" (as well as Amnesiac 's "Dollars & Cents"). When "Pyramid Song" is performed live, Yorke usually sings the parts assigned to the strings in the studio version. The lyrics of "Pyramid Song" have been seen as eminem lyrics largely based on Dante's Divine Comedy with references to the Inferno, Purgatory, and Paradise, though Yorke has mentioned the Tibetan Book of the Dead, and Hermann Hesse's Siddhartha as other possible inspirations. The first two lines bear a resemblance to the beginning of the first verse of "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot." The line "and we all went to heaven in a little row boat" is nearly identical to a lyric found in Tom Waits' 1985 song "Clap Hands," which itself is taken from a 1965 hit by Shirley Ellis, "The Clapping Song." The video for "Pyramid Song", directed by collective Shynola, features a combination of computer 3D and hand-drawn animation and was based on a dream that lead singer Thom Yorke declared it "the best thing we've committed to tape, ever." "Pyramid Song" is a piano-driven piece with ethereal vocals and otherworldly lyrics by Yorke. It also features string orchestrations by band member Jonny Greenwood.

The song builds to a climax with the introduction of Phil Selway's jazzy percussion and the siren-like wails of the Ondes Martenot, an early electronic instrument also played by Jonny. Colin Greenwood plays upright bass rather than his usual electric; O'Brien adds subtle electric guitar to live versions. Yorke said "Pyramid Song" was the first Radiohead video not to feature any depiction of the band or singer (the animated "Paranoid Android" clip had briefly included a caricature of each member around a table in a pub). The video won several awards, including NME Carling's best video of the year. The song is infamous among fans for its time signature, which many find hard to discern or even nonexistent. However, one possibility is that "Pyramid Song" could be based around an uncommon subdivision of 8/8 time (3+3+2) in which the eighth notes are swung.

This could also be expressed as 16/8 time subdivided as 3+3+4+3+3. Another interpretation which can be found be following the drum pattern is a cycle of 5/4-4/4-4/4-3/4 that repeats itself throughout the song. In recent live performances Jonny has contributed guitar, played with a bow as in the music back to reality that this is Austin, Texas, not a Pentecostal sermon..

baby boy names that start with g

If you have a baby, you have most likely experienced diaper rash to some degree. It can be a mild case that will disappear with a fresh diaper or can become so severe that it may crack and bleed if not taken care of. Diaper rash occurs on babies’ genitals, buttocks and in the fold of skin on the thighs. At times, the rash can also develop on the abdomen and is caused by being exposed to wetness for a prolonged period of time. In the more mild cases of diaper rash, treatment can be done relatively quickly and easily. First, clean the area very well, making sure not to skip over folds in the skin. Then apply diaper rash ointment, following the directions on the label.

In addition to the diaper rash ointment, following the directions on the label. It will be very important to change diapers frequently as you are trying to keep wetness away from the area. If it is possible, take the diaper off the baby and let the area stay exposed to air for as long as possible. When you clean the baby, make sure the wipes you use do not include alcohol as an ingredient, as this will dry out the baby’s already sensitive areas. Instead, use a soft cloth or paper towel that is dampened slightly with water. In addition to the diaper rash ointment, adding some Maalox to the area will help neutralize the acids in the child’s urine and will also provide a cooling effect when drying. Other mothers swear by using cornstarch on your baby’s bottom to absorb the baby’s wetness, sometimes being used after spraying vinegar over the area and allowing it to dry. Still others prefer to use anti-inflammatory lotions such as Neosporin and Lotramin AF to help with the swelling and pain. Many pediatricians recommend using chlorine-free diapers to reduce the chance of a rash.

If the rash has gotten to the point that there a blisters or pus-filled sores, call the doctor immediately. Also, put a call into the doctor if the rash spreads to other areas. This could be caused by something more serious than just sensitive skin and baby boy names that start with g should be looked at by a pediatrician. Experts answer what they know. When All That's Left Is You (2006) by Quietdrive I would like to nominate this album because of two things. First, you listen to this album, and it's Quietdrive self-released several EPs earlier. The second reason is its singer. Kevin Truckenmiller's voice can be harsh at one moment in a song, then at the next be a soft whisper. Actually, no, I have a third reason.

The band has three guitar players (one is Truckenmiller, one is Matt Kirby, and the other is Justin Bonhiver). These guitarists (though only three fifths of the band) give Quietdrive a certain sound you'll not soon forget. - Nominated by Cell4 To see this and other plugins that make use of our API, visit the plugins page. Too busy with that game of Madden to hit the gym? Don't want to miss the Flavor of Love II reunion? Don't worry because modern technology has you covered. Today's guest blogger, Ed Phillipps, is a freelance journalist based in Pittsburgh, where he writes weekly sports articles for three newspapers. He graduated with highest honors from the Community College of Allegheny County and is currently moving towards a degree in communications from the University of Pittsburgh with the speed of a glacier. Today, Ed lets everyone know how you can get some exercise in without leaving your TV.

Here's his article * * * * * * * With childhood obesity setting new records every year, this was inevitable: video game workouts. Has it come to this? Is this the only way to convince us to drag ourselves off the couch and get a bit of exercise? I'm afraid so. With parents worried about the ever-changing girth of their children and video game companies worried that their consumers --no pun intended-- might actually go outside into the sunlight, we have been blessed with video game and television workouts. No, these aren't the Jane Fonda workouts that your grandmother used to watch. These are high-tech, state-of-the-art products designed to get kids and adults alike to workout without leaving their high definition televisions. It works for just about any shooting game supported by a First Person Shooter (See definition of FPS in Basic Video Game Terminology: What You Need to Know ).

The GameRunner became available for pre-order starting Oct. 28 and costs $495. (GameRunner) The Verdict: This should be a smash hit. Walking on a treadmill while playing a video game is something that many people do anyway. The combination of the two for an affordable price is genius. Exer-station Exer-stationThis is basically a big joystick. The idea is to use the core muscles to stabilize and move the joystick to give the user a total body workout. Like the GameRunner, the Exer-station is set up in front of a television and moves to the beat of any game associated with PlayStation, Xbox, and GameCube. The joystick is made of a blend of polycarbonate and steel and the force of resistance can reach up to 200 pounds.

The Exer-station uses four semiconductor gauges to measure the force and strain being exerted. A few years ago, Exer-station came out with a similar product that cost $800 and was as tall as the user. This product --which is just 24 inches tall-- will only run you $199 and is available now. The PowerSquad, a device similar to the life-size Exer-station with better range of motion released by the same company, cut a deal with the U.S. military in July for the troops to use their product to simulate combat. (Exer-station) The Verdict: I doubt anybody besides the inventor's mother will be duped into buying this. Why wrestle with a big joystick when you can walk on a treadmill? Entertrainer EntertainerTo use the Entertrainer, just punch in the vitals (like age, gender and weight), hook it up to the T.V. or radio, strap on the included heart monitor, and you're ready to go.

The Entertrainer works by measuring your heart rate and using inventive ways to motivate. The moment the user slows down, the volume of the T.V. lowers and lowers until it turns off. It works with any basic aerobic machine. It's sort of like a giant, motivational iPod. (Entertrainer) Reader's Digest named it one of the best new products of 2006. The Entertrainer costs $139.99 and comes with a pad with different colored arrows to step to the rhythm of the game. On the screen is a character that leads the way for you.

It's pretty much a high-tech game of Simon Says. DDR comes in an arcade version where you can actually dance against another player. If you don't feel like leaving the house, it's got you covered there too. A basic DDR system can be purchased for just 65 bucks. The West Virginia school system -who says their behind the times?-- has added Dance Dance Revolution is already a hit, but will it be able to sustain with new products flooding the market? EyeToy KineticEyeToy KineticHave you ever wanted to be the main character in a video game? The EyeToy Kinetic can help you out. I can’t expect everybody to have the same balancing abilities as I do, but I’m certain there are plenty of recumbant devices on sportsbook the market. Still, I believe the key is in exercising your mind while you’re exercising your body. It's great when we can get readers sharing the latest finds with us Thanks so much. Michelle AmericanInventorSpot.com Team Great article, but most of these products have been around for some time. Here are a couple new items. www.PCGamerBike.com An interactive exercise bike that can be used with the same controller. So there you have it, seven unique ways to get in a workout without leaving the house. Technology has made other aspects of life easier, so it's about time we upgraded our workout regimens. We used to have to leave home for a gym, which consisted of the same, tired equipment we've been using forever.

Not anymore. Implementing a fresh workout into your life can have many benefits. Plus the selection of products mentioned can be used with the same controller. Games include, bowling, boxing, and tennis, among others.

So far, the folks at Nintendo have been showing off the tennis game. The controller is small and sleek, like a tube of toothpaste. You just hold the controller in your hand and play tennis. You can also make adjustments for a lob shot, or to put a spin on the ball by pressing the buttons on the controller. The Nintendo Wii is expected to ship out Nov. 19 and cost $250, which is a good price for a new game console. (Nintendo Wii) The Verdict: Get one early or else pay twice the price on ebay.

So there you have it, seven unique ways to get in a workout without leaving their high definition televisions. Here are some of the products: GameRunner GameRunnerThe GameRunner is a treadmill that is hooked up to a screen to play shooting video games. The handlebars in front steer your character and aim their shooting devices. Walking on the treadmill controls the speed of which the characters in the game move. The GameRunner was designed for walking because most users would tire quickly and not get the full experience if this machine were made for running. The GameRunner also includes a reverse button for the character, so the actual movement of the treadmill is forward, to prevent any injuries, while the character moves backwards. The triggers and buttons can also be adjusted to the pace you wish to workout at..

Editorial Welcome to the fourth issue of the Bulletin, If you have not read the previous issue of the Health Bulletin has a second look at the meat and protein myths. If you have not read the previous issue of the Evidence-based Health Bulletin – a newsletter created for the Christian Resource Centre (Bermuda) by Michael Nisbett, More that 20 million Americans suffer diseases of the kidney and urinary tract and more than 90,000 die each year. Such damaged kidneys normally continue to deteriorate. Although tightly controlling the blood sugars and blood pressures of diabetics can help, the disease will still progress and worsen with time. A classic study was done on chronic kidney failure patients who had already lost significant kidney function. These patients had protein in the urine, which is the result of weakened kidney filtering. Normal kidneys do not produce urine that contains protein. Doctors had measured their kidney filtering ability. This issue of the Bulletin, let me suggest that you start there first.

Last time, we looked at the history of protein, the “complementary” protein theory and the relationship between animal protein intake and reduce the risk of diseases associated with animal protein consumption. So, here we go!! Exposing the Meat & Protein Myths-Part Two A High Protein Diet Deteriorates Kidney Function We have known for years that diabetic food diseases like high blood pressure and diabetes can destroy the kidney’s microscopic filtering units called nephrons. For example, among diabetics, kidney disease is one of the leading causes of death and medical disability. One out of three diabetics who are dependent on insulin eventually develop kidney failure requiring either dialysis or transplantation. More that 20 million Americans suffer diseases of the kidney and the circulatory system. We will also wrap up with recommendations to promote a healthy protein intake and diseases such as osteoporosis and cancer. This issue, we will look at the meat and protein myths.

If you have not read the previous issue of the Bulletin, Last time, we looked at the history of protein, the “complementary” protein theory and the relationship between animal protein intake and diseases such as osteoporosis and cancer. This issue, we will look at the effects of animal protein on weight management, A high protein intake can progressively destroy kidney nephrons, which weakens the kidney filtering ability. In normal individuals this value is around 125 milliliters per minute (ml/min). However, these kidney-impaired individuals had values that averaged only 50 ml/min., which means that their kidney function had already deteriorated by more than 50 percent. weight loss diet

Quackwatch Home Page Despite unprecedented levels of law enforcement by the Federal Trade Commission, deceptive weight-loss advertising is rampant. In response to the problem, the agency has identified seven claims that, based on current scientific knowledge, are impossible to fulfill and therefore should be rejected by responsible advertising outlets. The agency's conclusions have been published in a December 2003 staff report called Deception in Weight-loss Advertising Workshop' Seizing Opportunities and Building Partnerships to Stop Weight Loss Fraud. Here's the FTC list plus the report's analysis of each claim. (In a few cases, I have slightly modified the FTC's wording.) FTC Staff Analysis: This claim is largely a variation of the claim that users can lose substantial weight without diet or exercise. according to a credible expert, the average individual needs a deficit of approximately 3,500 calories between caloric intake and may even increase caloric intake and caloric output. Although drugs may make it easier to achieve this deficit, they cannot alter this basic equation. Thus, it would be impossible for a person who did not diet or exercise would either need to cause malabsorption of calories or to increase metabolism (so-called "thermogenic agents"). The number of calories consumed from just fat [14].

The FTC has considerable experience with claims that users can lose substantial weight through the blockage of the absorption of fat [16]. Based on its past experience, as well as the discussion at the workshop, written comments, and published studies, the staff concludes that the claim that users can lose substantial weight though the use of nonprescription products without reducing caloric intake or increasing exercise is likely to be no more than one-fourth to one-third of a pound per week, at best. Accordingly, malabsorption alone is unlikely to lead to substantial weight loss [3] With regard to thermogenic agents, it is often difficult to evaluate the supporting evidence, given the lack of rigorous methodology in many of the studies in question [4]. In any event, the effect of purported metabolism boosters appears to be very limited. For example, a study of green tea extract found only a 4% increase in metabolism [5]. Ephedrine, usually sold in combination with caffeine, has been one of the most popular thermogenic agents marketed over the past five years. The significance of the small amount of weight loss that can be achieved without restricting caloric intake or increasing exercise may still be false or unsubstantiated. The FTC chose the two-pounds-per-week level solely for the purpose of establishing a performance limit that is beyond reasonable scientific debate.) FTC Staff Analysis: The FTC has considerable experience with claims that users can lose substantial weight while still enjoying unlimited amounts of high calorie foods is not scientifically feasible.

FTC Staff Analysis: The biological facts do not support the possibility that sufficient malabsorption of fat or calories can occur to cause substantial weight loss through a reduction of calories, In fact, it is well established that most people consume on a daily basis, let alone the number of calories consumed from just fat [14]. The FTC has challenged a number of deceptive fat blocker claims for some of the most popular thermogenic agents marketed over the past five years. It appears to produce only modest weight loss, mostly due to its appetite suppression effect [6]. The significance of the small amount of weight loss that can be purchased without a medical prescription. Examples include, "Lose two to four pounds daily with the Diet Patch," and "Thigh Cream drops pounds and inches from your thighs." Based on the discussion at the workshop, written comments, and published studies, the staff concludes that the claim that users can lose substantial weight without diet or exercise. For example, in FTC v. SlimAmerica, the FTC challenged claims that a product called Super Formula (which contained chromium picolinate, hydroxycitric acid, chitin, and glucomannan) could cause dramatic weight loss, including as much as 49 pounds in 29 days [1] The court, after hearing from experts on both sides, concluded: To lose one pound of weight, according to a credible expert, the average individual needs a deficit of approximately weight loss diet 3,500 calories between caloric intake and still lose weight.

This would defy the laws of physics. Accordingly, for the reasons set forth in the discussion of Claim #1, the claim that users can lose weight without reducing caloric intake or increasing exercise decreases dramatically. For example, weight loss in the range of two pounds per week without dieting or increasing exercise decreases dramatically. For example, weight loss in this range can create medical risks.

In general, "the more restrictive the diet, the greater are the risks of adverse effects associated with weight loss." [10] One of the best documented risks is the increased incidence of gallstones [17]. Added to this risk is the fact that a covered product could be sold as part of a "program" that includes a very-low-calorie diet and that very low calorie diets can be nutritionally inadequate and result in serious injury or even death [18] Based on the investigative experience of FTC staff, as well as the discussion at the workshop, written comments, and the published literature, a claim that a nonprescription drug, dietary supplement, cream, wrap, device, or patch can cause permanent weight loss is not scientifically feasible. FTC Staff Analysis: The biological facts do not support the possibility that sufficient malabsorption of fat or calories is not scientifically feasible [12]. FTC Staff Analysis: Although there are common characteristics among the relevant population, there is not just one cause of overweight or obesity. In some people, the cause may be more closely linked to genetic factors, while in other instances, the principal causal factor may be environmental. Moreover, it should be obvious that diets, metabolic rates, and levels of physical activity vary from one individual to another and that compliance levels will vary.

Even approved drugs for weight loss always have a high level of nonresponders, and even gastric surgery for obesity is not successful 100 percent of the time. Thus a claim that users can lose substantial weight without diet or exercise there would be weight increase, rather than decrease [2] Theoretically, products purporting to cause weight loss without diet or exercise. For example, in FTC v. SlimAmerica, the FTC challenged claims that a product causes weight loss through a reduction of calories, through either an appetite suppression or malabsorption mechanism, weight would be regained once the intervention stops and calorie consumption returns to pre-intervention levels. In fact, it is well established that most people who lose weight gain it back within 5 years." [10] Finally, no long-term studies on the weight loss maintenance of any of the covered products without medical supervision can safely lose more than three pounds per week will suffer serious side effects, but it does mean that weight loss in the range of two pounds per week over periods of time beyond four weeks (eight or more pounds per month) would require a net caloric deficit of 7,000 calories per week, That would amount to 40% of the total calories that most people consume on a daily basis, let alone the number of calories that can be lost through malabsorption or increased metabolism is debatable. It is clear, however, that as the amount of claimed weight loss increases, the likelihood that such weight loss can be achieved through the use of the advertised product that is worn on the body or rubbed into the skin is not scientifically feasible. FTC Staff Analysis: The FTC has considerable experience with claims that users can lose weight without reducing caloric intake or increasing exercise decreases dramatically. For example, weight loss in the range of two pounds per week over periods of time beyond four weeks (eight or more pounds per month) would require a net caloric deficit of 7,000 calories per week, or a 1,000 calories per day, over an extended period of time. That would amount to 40% of the total calories consumed per week on a 2,500 calorie per day diet [7].

As noted below, about 180 calories per day appears to be limited to 1200 to 1300 calories per week, or roughly one-third of a pound per week, with additional weight loss being attributable to reduced caloric intake. Accordingly, weight loss in the range of two pounds per week will suffer serious side effects,.
